Chris Koh

Chris Koh is a British professional violin teacher with over 25 years experience working in schools and music education programs. Since moving to Japan, Chris has established a busy teaching studio within the international community in Tokyo. He has extensive experience working with students from as young as 3 years old to pre-music college/university level and beyond, successfully helping many students navigate through the many stages of their violin education.

Chris is also a peripatetic violin tutor at the British School in Tokyo's thriving music department, this includes teaching ABRSM/ iGCSE music theory extra curricular club and directing various String ensembles and Chamber Coaching programs for both Primary and Secondary year groups.

Chris was awarded a postgraduate scholarship to study with Professor Krysztof Jakowicz at the F.Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland. He also studied with Eszta Boda-Katona (Trinity College of Music), Jean Brier (Huddersfield University) and Oliver Butterworth at the Centre for Young Musicians (Pimlico, London). As a professional freelance and session musician, Chris has worked for various Classical Opera, Orchestral, Chamber and Contemporary music theatre companies in the UK. He has also worked with various contemporary pop artists, performing across an eclectic range of music festivals and tours (such as the Edinburgh Festival, Pukkelpop festival and Festival de la Cité Lausanne.)

Chris's private violin lessons are held at Noah rental studios located in Komazawa Daigaku or at L’atelier APC Violin Shop in Shibuya. Limited slots are also available for adult learners subject to availability.
